Free Access to Trusted Advisor Reports

Are you familiar with Trusted Advisor, our members-only forum that addresses the complex concerns Application Development and Maintenance (ADM) professionals face in the industry?

Here’s how Trusted Advisor works:

  • At any time, members can submit an ADM-related question to the backlog, which is accessible to all members.
  • Each month, members can vote on the question that they most want to have researched.
  • At the end of each month, DCG’s research team produces a written report addressing the question with the most votes.

Some of the questions addressed in the reports include:

  • Can Agile Be Used to Rescue a Troubled Project?
  • Why is it So Difficult for Organizations to Get an Accurate Estimate?
  • What Are Agile Best Practices and What Does the Future Hold?

Previously, these reports were only accessible to members of Trusted Advisor; however, we’ve decided to open up access to anyone and everyone! These reports address popular industry topics, and thus the research may be useful to a wider audience outside of just the members of Trusted Advisor.

Of course, only members have the ability to submit and vote on the questions to be researched. So, if you are interested in taking part in that process, please join and take part – it’s free!

If you’re interested in accessing the reports, they are now located in the Publications section of our website. We hope you find them useful, and if you do, let us know!

Analyzing the Military’s .NET Framework

As you may know, David Consulting Group is a partner with CAST, a world leader in Software Analysis and Measurement. Some of our offerings are powered by CAST products, like the Application Code Quality Center of Excellence and our Function Point Analysis Service.

Our partnership is built on years of independent work in software analytics, as well as a number of successful joint engagements. One such engagement occurred when a branch of the United States military wanted to validate its vendor-designed .NET framework with an external assessment of its architectural and performance software code.

To execute the project, DCG worked with CAST and Alliance Global, a software development firm that builds tools to perform code reviews using advanced application analytic tools.

Ultimately, David Consulting Group utilized the CAST Application Intelligence Platform (AIP) to effectively analyze the framework code and identify areas of concern for the organization (sample output below).

Find out more about this engagement and read our newest case study, David Consulting Group Utilizes CAST’s Application Intelligence Platform to Analyze and Assess a Third Party, Custom .NET Framework for the Military.

How Can You Make Integration/Acceptance Testing Truly Agile?

This month’s Trusted Advisor report, How Can You Make Integration/Acceptance Testing Truly Agile," was researched and written by Tom Cagley, DCG’s Vice President of Consulting and Agile Practice Manager.

The report is intended to show where Agile project integration and acceptance testing fit in the overall flow of Agile and why they are integral to effective Agile. It examines the flow of Agile and its differences from Waterfall, discusses user acceptance and integration testing in Agile and comes to a conclusion as to how to make these types of testing truly Agile in nature.

To learn more about this topic, download the report.

Members of Trusted Advisor are able to submit questions to a backlog at will. Each month, members have the opportunity to vote on the question they want to see researched. The question with the most votes is then researched by DCG’s team and a report is produced. To join Trusted Advisor, contact Tony Timbol.

The Application Code Quality Center of Excellence

We’re happy to announce our newest offering, the Application Code Quality Center of Excellence (CoE), which is designed to help an organization identify and address risky and/or inefficient code practices that disrupt performance and increase maintenance costs. The goal is to reduce the cost of operations to free up investments in new solutions (or lower the budget as a whole).

The solution is powered by CAST, the market leader for software analysis and measurement. It features two types of analysis capabilities, the Rapid Portfolio Assessment (RPA) and the Structural Quality Assessment (SQA).

SQA is ideal for organizations seeking to analyze one problem application, multiple times, for up to two years, allowing you to make changes and track progress over time. RPA is an annual subscription service, allowing you to apply it to as many applications as you choose during the year, providing a better understanding of your portfolio’s overall health.

Watch the video below to hear why our CEO, Mike Harris, is excited about this new addition to our line up – and why you should be too!
